Dragonfly Blog Term 1
This term we have been learning about the invasion of the Anglo-Saxons. We haver learnt what they did for Britain and what we still use today. This includes certain place names like Teynham. As this ends in “ham”, we know that in Anglo-Saxon times, this meant farm or village. We also learnt that the Anglo-Saxons introduced Christianity back into the kingdom too.
In English we have taken the knowledge we have been learning in Topic to help us write kennings based on Beowulf. We wrote some very gruesome poems based on Grendel. We then went on to write playscripts about why many people moved from Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands.
To support our English and Topic, we have been reading The King who threw away his throne by Terry Deary. The story really showed us how the Saxons and the Picts were all invading Britain at once.
In Science this term, we have been learning about the human digestive system and how we get all our nutrition from our food. We finished by learning how to look after a very important art of our digestive system, our teeth.
For our topic in RE this term we focussed on the Creation story. We found out how important it is to look after Gods creation. We are all very excited to explore gardening to look after nature in the future.
It has been fantastic to see the home learning coming in from so many children this term. I am glad that the children are enjoying continuing their development at home with family. I am so happy with the enthusiasm. Keep up the great work Dragonflies!
