Year 2 Bumblebee Class Blog

Teynham School > Year 2 - Bumble Bee > Year 2 Bumblebee Class Blog

This term our English and topic theme, ‘school days,’  has continued, with a particular focus on Victorian schools.  We have written diary entries from the perspective of a Victorian child, have composed persuasive letters to a significant historical figure, used non-fiction texts to research the Victorian age, and really enjoyed role-playing being in a Victorian school room.  The children have continued to enjoy Jill Murphy’s The Worst Witch, which we have explored during our reading comprehension lessons, and which we will complete before the end of term.

In Maths we have covered time, statistics, and position and direction, and we are now focusing on re-visiting areas such as money and place value to deepen our understanding.   Log-on details for Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) were sent out earlier in the year, and I would recommend that the children spend a few minutes every day practising their times tables over the summer via the TTRS website.

Animals have been the focus of science this term, including categorising animals based on their characteristics, identifying what animals need in order to survive, and defining what an animal is.  The children have also used scientific questioning and observation skills in order to identify animals.

Our RE focus this term has been Islam, exploring what it means to be a Muslim, and how Muslim beliefs compare to Christian and Humanist beliefs.  In PSHE we are focusing on ‘changing me’, including learning the correct terminology to describe parts of our bodies, accepting that change is inevitable and that it should be embraced, and learning to identify the positives at each stage of our growth.  In computing we are exploring how to programme using Scratch Jnr, and the children continue with their Team Theme PE sessions on Wednesday afternoons, as well as undertaking dance on Monday mornings.  In addition to learning all about pitch, dynamics, and rhythm, in music this term we have enjoyed composing our own film music.

Thank you for your continued support, especially reading on a daily basis with your child/children.  We hope you enjoyed our final wonder learning walk of the year, when the children showcased everything they have learnt this term.  I wish the children every success for next year.
